TDS progresses with broadband stimulus projects in Indiana, Wisconsin
TDS Telecom has lit up broadband services for customers in parts of Wisconsin and Indiana thanks to American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) broadband grants.
Residents around Reeseville, Beetown and Potosi, Wis., and Camden, Ind., will be able to get access to broadband via TDS' Riverside Telecom and Farmers Telephone Company operating companies.
The service provider said it will continue build out the stimulus-funded projects with plans to complete them by the end of this year. They will notify customers as service becomes available and sign them up via mail.
In the Reeseville area, TDS' Riverside Telecom will install over six miles of fiber cable and six remote terminal (RT) cabinets. Upon completion, the network upgrade will connect about 200 residents.
The Beetown and Potosi projects, set to serve about 500 residents, are part of TDS' Farmers Telephone Company and will consist of about eight-and-a-half miles of fiber optic cabling and nine RT cabinets. Finally, in Camden, TDS' Camden Telephone Company will install seven miles of fiber optic cabling and six cabinets to provide 300 residents with broadband service.
It's been a busy time for TDS and its broadband stimulus projects. In addition to these projects, TDS completed a broadband stimulus project near Orchard Farm, Mo., while it expects its projects around Chatham, Mich., and Wind Lake, Wis., to be completed by the end of the year. The telco has also begun broadband stimulus projects in Arizona, Kentucky and Mississippi.
